Wexford Celtic v Wexford Bohemians

Two new teams took to the field in this town derby on Saturday evening last. The home team started the brightest with the Bohs keeper the busier of the two early on. Celtic made a lot of changes after 15 mins and this seemed to interupt their rhythm as Bohs aided by the introduction of Eddie Lawlor and Derek Bergin began to get a grip on this contest, and it came as no surprise that they took the lead soon after as Mark Shorley rose highest to head home following a good cross from Bergin. A brilliant run into the box from Lawlor and he was taken down 5 minutes later and up stepped Colin Bent to put the visitors into a deserved 2-0 lead from the resulting spot kick. Second half saw Bohs happy to sit back and contain Celtic who had to now step up in search of the goal that would bring them back into this game, but as the game wore on Bohs began to turn the screw and one felt it was only a matter of time before they scored again as a great run by Derek Bergin nearly brought them their 3rd of the game. But they didnt have to wait long as Colin Bent put away his second penalty of the night to wrap up a comfortable win and secure the bragging rights to the Drinagh men as it finished 3-0 to the visitors.
