Week 4 Round Up

Last Friday evening saw the fourth week of games kicking off with plenty of action.

First, to Campile, where Fastnet suffered a 5-0 defeat. Campile missed a few chances in a cagey first half, but Johnny Keating scored to make it 1-0 at half time. Fastnet came out strong in the second half, but failed to equalise when they missed a penalty. Johnny Keating scored a second goal for Campile, and Alan Myler scored a penalty to make it 3-0. Goals from Kenneth Cahill and Shane Whelan sealed a 5-0 victory for Campile.

Next up, Kilmore hosted Rosslare Rangers and secured a 3-2 win. Kilmore were quick out of the blocks and raced to a two-goal lead, thanks to a sublime Danny O’Reilly finish and a Robbie Mullins strike. Somewhat against the run of play, Rosslare got back into the game when a free kick was headed back across the goal for Ian O’Leary to tap in. This gave the visitors confidence, and for the remainder of the half they were the better team, although they missed a great chance to equalise just before the break, with a Paul Fortune effort just off target. The second half continued in the same vein, with the home keeper, Cormac Power, having to make a smart save to keep his side in front. With 10 minutes remaining, the home side were awarded a penalty after a Rosslare defender handled the ball on his own goal line. Adam Lawlor scored the resultant penalty, although the visitors’ keeper did get a hand to it. Rosslare dug deep, and Oscar Pitt got a goal back with virtually the last kick of the game to give a final score of 3-2. An entertaining match, with the early foray by Kilmore playing a huge part in determining the final result.

The last of the Group A games was hosted by Corach, who came away with a 3-0 win against Cushinstown. Corach dominated the opening stages of the game, but some solid defending kept the home team at bay until John Staples broke through after 20 minutes to make it 1-0 to Corach. Corach doubled their lead 10 minutes into the second half with another goal by John Staples, who found himself unmarked at the back post for an easy finish. Almost instantly, Cushinstown were thrown a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty after a clumsy challenge from a Corach defender. However, a fine save from keeper Jason Whitty ensured that Corach kept their two-goal lead. They soon increased that lead, when some good combination play saw Alan Diskin make it 3-0, to all but finish the game. It was Corach’s first win of the season, and both teams still have a lot to do if they are to make the quarter final play-offs this season.

In Group A, Rosslare, Kilmore and Campile are on even points, so it’s all to play for.

In Group B, Courtown lost to Arklow, with Gerry Geraghty scoring the only goal to keep Arklow on their winning streak.

Forth Celtic beat Taghmon 3-2, with goals from Kevin Price, Tom Elmes and Paul Malone. The Taghmon goal scorers were Gary O’Brien and Kevin Carmody.

Enniscorthy visited Adamstown and coasted to victory, with a final score of 2-10. The Adamstown goals scorers were Brian Aylward and David Cadogan. Enniscorthy have taken the highest score in the league so far with goals from John Hudson (2), Willy Hudson (2), Sean Farnan (2), Colin Sheehan (2), Tomas Hawkins and Murt McKeown.

Enniscorthy are at the top of the Group B table followed very closely by Arklow.
