Taghmon Utd v Forth Celtic

Taghmon hosted Forth Celtic in the opening game of the season on Thursday evening last. The first half was a very tight contest with both sides coming close on occasions but neither could break the deadlock and it remained 0-0 at half time.  The home side took the lead on 50 minutes with a goal from Ian Stafford. Forth Celtic equalised 10 minutes later with a good strike from Alan Daly and it looked like a draw was on the cards in this very evenly matched contest. Soon after Taghmon took the lead again, this time with a great goal from Stuart Lawlor. Forth Celtic pushed hard for the equaliser and in the last minute of normal time were awarded a penalty after a challenge from the Taghmon goalkeeper on Forth Celtic’s Willie Burrell. Liam (Whacker) Murphy dispatched from the spot comfortably and again it looked like a draw was inevitable. Deep into injury time however, Forth Celtic gained possession again and launched a cross into the Taghmon box. It was met by the incoming Roger Doyle with a diving header, who guided the ball beyond the Taghmon goal keeper and snatched all 3 points for the visitors at the death. The final whistle soon followed with the score 3-2 to Forth Celtic in a very entertaining game of football.
